Sesame oil is a potent antioxidant, which can inhibit DNA damage and lipid peroxidation by 4-Nitroquinoline N-oxide (4-Nitroquinoline-1-oxide) in rats. Studies indicate that Sesame oil can increase wound healing in SKH1 mice when added together with ozone. It is known that Sesame oil is composed of triacylglycerols encapsulated by a monolayer of phospholipids which is then covered by the proteins oleosin, caleosin and steroleosin. Alternate studies suggest that Sesame oil can attenuate the damage caused by lipid peroxidation on hepatic and renal tissues via inhibiting nitric oxide in mice. Furthermore, this compound is a great research tool for reversing and preventing oxidative damage on cells and tissues.
