PCBP4 (Poly(rC) Binding Protein 4), also known as MCG10 or hnRNP E4, is an RNA-binding protein belonging to the hnRNP K homology domain-containing family. It regulates mRNA stability, translation, and alternative splicing by binding to poly(C) motifs in target transcripts. PCBP4 plays critical roles in cellular stress responses, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis through post-transcriptional control of genes involved in proliferation and DNA damage response. Its expression is frequently downregulated in various cancers, functioning as a tumor suppressor by stabilizing mRNAs encoding cell cycle inhibitors and pro-apoptotic factors.
