背景
Bone Morphogenetic Protein 2 (BMP2) is a 32 kDa secreted signaling molecule belonging to the transforming growth factor-β superfamily that orchestrates osteogenesis, chondrogenesis, and embryonic patterning through binding to type I and type II serine/threonine kinase receptors, triggering Smad-dependent and Smad-independent pathways; recombinant human BMP2 is FDA-approved as an osteoinductive implant to promote spinal fusion and fracture repair, while dysregulated BMP2 expression is implicated in heterotopic ossification, pulmonary hypertension, and several cancers.
